money that outlives you
Most money is made once and spent once.
You work. You get paid. It goes to rent, to bills, to the week. Then you do it again. That's income. There's nothing wrong with it. But it doesn't outlive you.
Wealth is different. Wealth is money with a job that keeps going after you stop.
I didn't learn that from a book. I learned it in my chair.
Some of the men who sat with me had built something that would outlast them. They didn't talk about it the way people talk about money on TV. They didn't brag. They talked about it like a house they were building for somebody else to live in.
Then the person who got me into trading asked me a question I couldn't answer.
"How long are you planning on trading time for money?"
That stayed with me. Every dollar I made, I made with my hours. When the hours stopped, so would the money. Nothing I was building would be there for somebody else to live in.
That's what Linaje means to me. Lineage. What you hand to the people after you.
Here's how I think about it, in three layers.
Make it. Some money has to be generated. For me, that's options trading. It's active work. It takes learning, and it takes discipline.
Grow it. What you make shouldn't sit still. Long-term portfolios let money work over years, not weeks.
Hold it. Hard assets are the part you hand down. Things that hold for the next generation.
Each layer feeds the next. None of it is a promise. Markets go up and down. Nobody can tell you where a price is going, and anyone who says they can is selling something.
What you can control is the structure. And what you know.
Money can be lost. What you know can't. That's the real inheritance. Not just the account, but knowing how it was built, so the next person can keep building.
It doesn't take a big number to start. It takes deciding that some of what you make has a different job.
I'm building mine for my legacy. My kids. Their kids. And so on.
Income is spent once. Wealth is handed down.
Ask yourself what you're handing down.
If you're thinking about what you'll pass forward, introduce yourself.
